The Challenges of Contemporary Publishing

You are cordially invited to the international conference on standards in scientific publishing, which will be held at the Lublin University of Technology on May 25-26, 2023. The event is organized by the Centre of Scientific and Technical Information of Lublin University of Technology.

Solving common problems of scientific publishing, stimulating discussions and discovering new ways of development of publishing houses and scientific communities are the aims of the meeting. Speeches of the speakers will concern traditional and electronic publishing (publishing platforms), opportunities and challenges of the open access model (Creative Commons licenses), adjustment of publishing policy to the ongoing changes (ministerial requirements) and the cooperation of publishers with scientific journals (application to indexing databases). There will also be papers expanding the knowledge of ethical principles and good practices in scientific publishing, the methodology necessary for the proper creation and publication of scientific papers will be discussed.

The conference is aimed at staff of academic and research institutions, PhD students, librarians, authors, editors, reviewers, and publishers.

The conference program was divided into four sessions:

Session I	Publishing platforms – advantages and disadvantages of using: experiences of using different publishing platforms for academic journals, monographs and textbooks; proprietary and off-the-shelf system solutions; traditional publishing models vs. publishing on electronic platforms.
Session II:	Models of open access publishing: hybrid journals; hybrid publishing; open-licensed electronic publishing; open access publishing programs; scholarly publishing in the face of openness policies; opportunities and challenges of open access publishing.
Session III.	Good practices in publishing: electronic publishing; directions of development of scientific publishing; publishing in the structure of the university, publishing activity of libraries; ethical principles in scientific publishing; copyright in publishing activity; methodology of writing and publishing scientific papers.
Session IV.	Cooperation between the editorial office of a journal and a publishing house: experiences of cooperation between editors, reviewers and authors; promotion and image building of a scientific journal; models of cooperation between the editorial office of a journal and a publishing house; a journal in the structure of a publishing house; successful application to indexing databases; raising the score of a journal in the ministerial list.

Conference organizers provide attendees with:
